You’re probably wondering what this new trend strobing is? Strobing is a technique that gives you a youthful, illuminating and dewy glow. A glow that will leave your face looking as radiant as if you just enjoyed a day at the spa. As women we love to illuminate the areas of our face that we want to stand out. Being a woman of color and finding the perfect product or technique can be tricky. Especially depending on your skins undertone and the product shade. The last thing you want to do is choose a highlight shade that doesn’t compliment your complexion.
My complexion is a medium/dark shade with golden undertones. I took a field trip to my local Sephora and Ulta. I brought along my friend who has a much deeper skin tone as well. We tested out the top strobing products to see which best fit our different skin tones.
The illuminators we tested were:
After examining each product, we narrowed down our decisions for medium/dark and deep complexions. For medium/dark: Sun beam, Champagne Pop, Gilded Honey, and Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer were our favorites. All of these shades also look great with deeper skin tones but I feel the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer might not work for all deep complexions. To suit deeper complexions Becca Cosmetics Topaz worked perfectly. Our personal favorites were Becca’s “Champagne Pop” and “Topaz”.“Champagne Pop” warms all complexions with its all-embracing peachy shade. Topaz gives a golden bronze glow on much deeper skin tones.
The strobing trend has skyrocketed and taken off with a vengeance. All in all, strobing is designed to provide a luminous, radiant glow. Each product has its own flare and can flatter a variety complexions. By no means are all luminzers created equal and it is important find the perfect one to compliment your skin tone!
