Pantene Silky Moisture Whip Product Review

Pantene Silky Moisture Whip 002Pantene was one of my cult favorite beauty products growing up but  it’s been a long time since I’ve tried a styling product from them. The new Pantene Silky Moisture Whip caught my eye for the simple fact that it acts as a moisturizing styler, in the shape of a mousse can, without the crunchiness. With my thin, tight curly hair, I wanted to see if this product could also create some volume and moisture for my locks.

Although hesitant to try anything resembling mousse, Pantene Silky Moisture Whip claimed to leave hair feeling moisturized for up to 48 hours, protect hair from heat styling damage and regulate the hair’s natural moisture. Normally with a mousse, I get the volume that I want but my curls are dried out and a bit crunchy. With my willingness to try anything once (or in some cases, twice), I was up for a change.

My normal hair routine consists of applying a cleansing conditioner (or any moisturizing conditioner), detangling my hair in the shower, drying my curls with a soft microfiber towel, applying a leave in conditioner, applying a thickening cream and finally some form of curl cream. For this experiment in particular, I skipped the thickening and curl cream to see the true results. To begin the process, I separated my hair into 4 sections first. Into my damp hair, I distributed a small amount of the Silky Moisture Whip into my hands (about the size of golf ball) and worked it through each section from the bottom of my hair and worked my way up to the roots. In total, I probably used about three golf ball size amounts for my hair. The consistency isn’t like a normal mousse which is light and airy. It’s thick and creamy like whipped cream from the can.

After applying the Pantene Silky Moisture Whip to my hair, I flipped my head over and scrunched my curls. Next, I air dried my hair which took a little over an hour before I fluffed my hair (By “fluffed” I mean, flipping my head over once again, placing my fingers into my hair near my scalp and gently shaking the curls out.) The final result? A head full of curls that looked and felt moisturized. The pros: This product rocks for the curly girl on the run. Literally took me five minutes to style my hair. My curls were soft, not hard or crunchy at all! In addition, it’s super cheap! (Under $6.00) The cons: My second day hair was frizzy and that was even after I placed my hair in a satin scrunchy and satin cap overnight. Not a lot of volume from this product although it never claimed it would provide that. (Wishful thinking!) Also, I’m not crazy about the ingredients which include parabens.

Overall, the verdict on this product is that it did create beautiful curls and kept the moisture locked in for at least one full day. If you are on a budget and like a simple process when you’re getting ready, Pantene Silky Moisture Whip will do the job.
